What do you do with all the beautiful layered paper flowers that I showed you how to make in my last post? Make a letter art, of course!
In my last post, I shared a tutorial and video about how to make layered flowers. They are such a simple and fun make! I could make paper flowers all day, but well, at the end of the day, what do I do with them all? That’s where this post comes in.
Cheerleading Dreams
When I was a child, I thought you had to be really special to have your initials on a jacket or bag. Something that a farm girl could only hope for.
One year, I made the cheerleading team – I think I was in seventh or eighth grade. I was so excited because the cheerleaders always had their names embroidered on their skirts. I had dreamed of my name embroidered on my uniform. It was so cool! And I don’t think I’ve had my name or initials embroidered on anything since then!
Letter Art and Paper Flowers
And back then, you did not see monograms very often. But today, they are everywhere.
A year or two ago, I was scrolling through Pinterest and I saw a beautiful display of flowers that had been shaped to form a letter. What a great project, I thought. But, as so often happens, I forgot about that project.
Until I started making these layered paper flowers. I just kept making them and my craft table slowly disappeared. Finally, I knew I had to do something with all these flowers. And that’s when I remembered the letter!
Easy DIY Project With Layered Paper Flower
This project is a two-in-one – paper flowers first and then the letter art! What’s nice is that each step is easy, so if you are looking for a project to do with your child or grandchild, this one fits the bill.
Here is my video tutorial for those who want to get started.
Simple Tools And Materials
Basically, you need three things to make this project – layered paper flowers, a letter, and glue. And while I used my Cricut Maker, a cutting machine is not necessary for this project – especially if you have already made your layered paper flowers. It is possible to cut the leaf templates and the letter with scissors. Just print them out and scissor away.

Of course, I am assuming you have already made 12-15 flowers for each letter. If not, check out the tutorial in my Maker Library (item #6) that provides step-by-step instructions as does my video on this post.
If you already have your paper flowers made, then you only need to cut out 2-4 leaves for each letter and then cut your letter. My letter measures 10.5 inches, but the finished size is about 11.5 inches.
Assemble The Letter
Your biggest flowers should anchor your letter. Each letter will have different anchor points. On the letter ‘P’ that I created, I felt like the straight left side was the foundation, so I put three large flowers there – one at the top, one at the bottom, and on in the middle.
For the letter ‘S’ that I made, I also used three large flowers to anchor it. I placed them similarly to the letter ‘P.’ I glued one at the beginning and end of the letter and then a third one in the middle.
While you can glue the flowers any way you’d like, I think the best way to do this is to keep adding flowers in the center between two flowers that you’ve previously glued down. If you keep following this process, you will eventually cover the entire letter.
Now it is time to add some greenery! You don’t have to add the leaves, BUT I think that the leaves add a bit of dimension to the project.
The smaller, solid leaf is one that I created from a real rose leaf! I think that it looks best with the rose paper flower, but you can use it with any of the flowers.
This project glues up quickly!
How To Use Layered Paper Flower Letter Art
Now that you know how to make this cool letter from layered paper flowers, what should you do with it?
You could hang it up just as it is. I think putting the letters in a frame or shadowbox, then hanging them on the wall is a great way to display this craft!
This is a great idea for a child’s bedroom or an office!
I plan to add mine to my maker loft. I have a bare wall in my studio, and I would love to use it when I film. Right now, it is just too plain. Since I have two letters, I may have to make a larger sign or canvas for them. I will let you know when I have it completed!
I almost forgot – these beautiful letters made from layered paper flowers make great gifts. They are fun to make and come together easily.
